  • Steven Kaufman , Journalism

Steven Kaufman is not only a person who stutters, but an accomplished motivational speaker. Like many others before him, Steven had numerous rough experiences throughout high school and college, and his stuttering was so severe that Steven started to approach his life in a "Be seen but not heard" philosophy. After being turned down for a job he really wanted, that was the catalyst that Steven needed to make major changes in his life. Almost a decade later, Steven has turned his life around and transformed himself into a "stuttering superstar" and has made it his personal mission to reach out to as many people who stutter as possible and help them realize that stuttering does not have to automatically close any door to you. You can do anything you want to, and it doesn't matter whether you want to be a teacher, an attorney, or a veterinarian. Steven uses humor to show that stuttering and Asperger's are just one part of him. Steven also believes that the journey of self-acceptance is the most important anyone can take. Steven has presented at speech and hearing association conferences in Georgia and Virginia, and maintain a blog on stuttering for four years. He graduated with his journalism degree magna cum laude from Long Island University and a paralegal certificate with honors from Hofstra University. Steven currently works for the federal government and resides in northwestern Montgomery County, Md., in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
