    Dr. Rao has Retired as VP of Inpatient Operations & Compliance at the Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital (MNRH) in Washington, D.C and now serves as Rehab Consultant. In addition, Dr. Rao is a Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland. He received his BA in Philosophy from St. Vincent College, his Masters in Speech Pathology from Catholic University & his Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Science from the University of Maryland. He completed a Certificate in Executive Development from Georgetown University's Graduate School of Healthcare Administration.

    Dr. Rao has published numerous articles and chapters on such topics as Medical Errors, Customer Service, Policy and Procedures, Accreditation, Health Literacy, & Emotional IQ. He is a sought after speaker, having presented over 125 lectures in over 36 states, Brazil, Canada, and New Zealand. Dr. Rao received the Maryland Speech & Hearing Association's Honors and Service Award & also received the ASHA Foundation’s Clinical Achievement Award for Maryland as well as the District of Columbia. In 2002, Gallaudet University presented Rao its Outstanding External Collaborator Award. Dr. Rao is a Fellow in both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association(ASHA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

    Dr. Rao has been an invited member of “expert panels” convened by ASHA, Joint Commission, GAO, Rand Corporation, National Stroke Association, American Heart Association, Institute of Medicine, CARF and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. Dr. Rao has served on a number of national committees such as ASHA’s Chair of Honors, Board of Division of Coordinators and Board of Ethics. Dr. Rao presided over the Maryland Speech and Hearing Association, Maryland Board of Examiners, & DC Association for Healthcare Quality. Finally, Dr. Rao is a former President of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. He currently sits on the University of Maryland Board of Visitors and Board of Directors of TranzEd.
